Stylus materials  --  Sapphire has given way to diamond tips mounted in metal shanks welded to the cantilever. Acceleration of up to 1000 gravities requires a very low stylus mass. So as metal adds mass, some are made of pure diamond mounted directly, and are called naked diamond styli.
