Our visitor D.R. was kind enough to pass on this item of interest: Cliff Edwards was later the voice of Jimminy Cricket in Disney animations, singing "I'm gonna live to be 103, cause I play safe for you and me, 'cause i'm no fool."  (Thanks, D.R.!)

Cliff Edwards was one of the highest paid stars in the 1920's. His albums were all hits,he starred in numerous movies with stars such as Buster Keaton, and he was good. But do to his two or three passions, women (alamony), booze, and gambling, he fell short of cash. Thanks to a long time friend, Walt Disney, he got a job as the voice of Jimminy Cricket. He received regular checks from Disney. He was also the voice of Jim Crow in Dumbo. In 1960 something, he died alone and without a friend. Unknown, he died in a "home" he lied on the slab at the morgue for a long time before he was identified. Sure Hollywood gave him a big funeral and everything, and all the famous people said what a sad thing, homeless, living off of welfare, but he died forgotten.   (Thanks, Jim!)
