"Thanks you, thank you, thank you. It took me over 25 (!) years to collect some of those rare singles, and once I had them all, I had a dilemma. Some of those are valued in the 4 digits, so each time I put them on the turn table, I reduced their value as the needle scratches the vinyl. LP2CD gave me the perfect solution. I can listen to my favorite music as many times as I want and keep my precious records untouched. The restoration was excellent, noises were reduced to minimum and the sound was enhanced. The price is quite high but it worth every penny. The service was superb with great communication. The only minor issue was the generic label on the CD - a list of the tracks could be helpful. Altogether, this is a highly recommended service. Sincerely,"

We accept under this category and pricing: 1/4 inch open reel (reel-to-reel) tapes, usually on 10-inch reels, recorded on 8 tracks. "Fostex" recorded 8-track tapes are quite popular.

1/4 Inch 8-Track Raw Transfers digitizing service - What you get for your $:

  • We transfer all 8 tracks perfectly synched as raw audio data files in WAV, AIFF, FLAC or Broadcast Wave Format. Each track (1 through 8) on the tape becomes a soundfile (1 through 8) on the data CD/DVD.
  • Sound files can be imported in your editing program for mixing and sound processing.
  • Playback and recording on professional equipment (each of our interconnect cables costs more than the average discounter's studio...).
  • 8-track 1/4 inch tapes are played back and digitized at 15 ips. If your master tape was NOT originally recorded at 15 ips, when you load the data files into your editing program, it is a very simple command to change the speed and pitch. A 1 octave change (up or down) will equal a change of tape speed by x2 or x1/2.
  • If original tape was recorded on Fostex machine: if selected, Dolby NR is turned on.
  • Analog to digital conversion is performed with the best available, cleanest sounding A/D converters.
  • The transfer is RAW: no noise reduction, no trimming, no mix-down, no separating by songs.
  • CD/DVD is printed (we do not use glued-on labels).
  • CD/DVD is quality checked.
  • Over 22 years experience - 19,000 successful projects.
  • On-line tracking system.
  • Automatic email notifications on receipt of your recordings and order check-out.
  • Optional RUSH Services: 1 week or 72 hours turnaround time
NOTE:
  • For transfers up to 700 Mb, a data CD will be prepared. For transfers over 700 Mb, data DVD(s) are prepared.
  • If a set of 2 DVDs is necessary, when ordering Extra CD/DVDs, two Extra CD/DVD Copies are necessary per set.
  • The magnetic tape medium is prone to loss of high frequencies (HF). The HF loss is magnified by aging and by storage in less than optimum conditions (optimum storage conditions for magnetic tape: 68 degrees F at 40% humidity). Many tapes submitted are old and have not been stored optimally. Such tapes will exhibit an increased loss of HF, and an apparent increase in "boominess". Our RAW transfers are an exact digitization, they will sound exactly as the tape plays today. The proper balance between high and low frequencies (equalization) can be restored by an experienced engineer (or by you) in your studio.
