What is a QUADRAPHONIC LP:
A Quadraphonic (or QUAD) LP is a 4-channel recording meant to be listened to using four speakers: two front speakers and two rear speakers. Quadraphonic CD4 LP records are usually marked with the letters "CD4" or "Quadradisc" and/or the Quadradisc or CD-4 logo. They may also be marked as "CD-4 Quadraphonic" or "CD-4 Quad". To be able to connect to four speakers and achieve the quadraphonic "surround" effect, the turntable must be connected to a quadraphonic decoder. As this is a technology of the 1970s, it is hard to find today quadraphonic decoders in working condition (and that will continue to work) that you can connect to your turntable. Our solution brings this 1970s technology into the 21st Century: you get the full 4-channel quadraphonic sound on CD!
How to play the QUADRAPHONIC CDs we provide (DTS or DOLBY DIGITAL):
Our Quadraphonic CDs must be played back in a player (CD or DVD or BluRay player that plays CDs) connected to a (or with a built-in) DTS or Dolby Digital decoder. This is most commonly found in "Home Theater" setups. Playback of our Quad CDs in a "Home Theater" (or similarly equipped) setup will activate the front left-right and the rear left-right speakers, exactly as it was back in the 1970s.
When ordering, you will have the option to order a DTS or a DOLBY DIGITAL format CD. They are both good, we do not have a preference. Most people order DTS.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Our Quad CDs are recorded in a digital format that MUST be played back in a system equipped with DTS or Dolby Digital conversion. Playing back our Quad CDs in a boombox or other player NOT equipped with DTS or Dolby Digital decoding will only produce a very loud (and annoying) hiss. We will NOT be able to issue a refund (and/or a dispute will not be successful) if an order is placed for a Quadraphonic CD by mistake and the person ordering does not have the proper equipment for correct playback.
- Although immersive and surprisingly pleasant for being a 1970s technology (this technology was way ahead of its time and died an early death), encoding 4-channels onto a system that was originally designed as a 2-channel system was really a "hack". The quality of the encoding was not always perfect. Some recordings exhibit zero artifacts, other recordings exhibit some artifacts (such as "pumping", ultrasonic carrier somewhat audible, etc.). Although we are happy to convert Quadraphonic LPs to CD for your listening enjoynment, we are NOT representing that the CD conversions we produce are "perfect" and free of quadraphonic encoding artifacts. Quadraphonic artifacts, if present, are not fixable. We are offering a trip to the 1970s in our "Quadraphonic Time Machine", but we are not guaranteeing that once in the 1970s you will enjoy the same comforts you are used to in our super-high-tech world of today. We will NOT be able to issue a refund (and/or a dispute will not be successful) arrising from issues of 1970s quadraphonic encoding quality.

SUGGESTION:
- Sound Restoration (cleaning of the sound and remastering the recording) is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Purchasing a QUAD transfer is a significant expense. Going "Transfer Only" is probably a waste of money when you realize that, in a QUAD recording, noises that could effectively be removed in a restoration, will be heard coming out of 4 speakers and distributed in a 3D space.
- Except for very few high end records (starting in the mid 1980's), most vinyl records are noisy.
- Our Sound Restoration process does not alter the sound of the original recording.
- If you are not sure whether or not you should order Sound Restoration, order Both Versions: Transfer AND Sound Restoration. Both Versions is an option selected by most of our collectors and audiophiles as it will preserve for the future what the original recording sounded at the time when we processed it AND a clean sound that makes for a superior listening experience.
- You will receive 2 CDs. One version with the original unaltered sound ("Transfer Only") and one version with Restored sound ("Sound Restoration"). If you are ordering "Transfer AND Sound Restoration" and "Extra CD Copies", please indicate which version should go on the Extra CD: the Transfer Only version or the Sound Restoration version. If you would like both version in a "set", please double the "Extra CD Copies" order (1 Extra CD Set with both versions = 2 "Extra CD Copy"). If you do not double the order or specify a version, we will make the "Extra CD Copy" from the "Restored Sound" version.
